ডা: সাখাওয়াত আলম বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব মেডিকেল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এ শিশু হৃদরোগ বিভাগে সহযোগী অধ্যাপক হিসেবে অধ্যাপনা করছেন! তিনি ২০০১ সালে রাজশাহী মেডিকেল কলেজ হতে এমবিবিএস পাস করার পর বাংলাদেশ কলেজ অফ ফিজিশিয়ান্স এন্ড সার্জনস (বিসিপিএস) এর অধীন শিশু ও নবজাতক রোগ বিদ্যা বিষয়ে উচ্চতর প্রশিক্ষণ এর জন্য ২০০৫ সাল হতে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব মেডিকেল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হতে প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহণ করে ২০১২ সালে নবজাতক রোগ বিদ্যা বিষয়ে স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রী এফ সি পি এস অর্জন করেন! পরে ২০০৯ সালে বিসিএস এর মাধ্যমে সরকারি চাকরিতে যোগদান করলেও অল্পসময় পরেই সেখান হতে অব্যাহতি নিয়ে ২০১৩ সালে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব মেডিকেল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিশু হৃদরোগ বিভাগে সহকারী আধ্যাপক হিসেবে যোগদান করে অধ্যাপনা শুরু করেন ।
পরবর্তীতে ২০১৭ সাল হতে ২০১৯ সাল পর্যন্ত ভারতের চেন্নাইয়ে অবস্থিত মাদ্রাজ মেডিকেল মিশন হতে ফেলোশিপ ইন পেডিয়াট্রিক কার্ডিওলজি (শিশু হৃদরোগ) এবং Fetal Echocardiography এবং Transoesophaseal echocardiography /TEE এ উচ্চতর প্রশিক্ষণ সহ ফেলোশিপ ইন অ্যাডভান্স ইকোকার্ডিওগ্রাফি বিষয়ে সুপারস্পেশালাইজড প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহণ করে পুনরায় একই বিভাগে যোগদান করে আধ্যাপনা গবেষণা ও চিকিৎসা সেবায় নিয়োজিত রয়েছেন!
